Problematic CEOs, social media, and capitalism

With recent events of the Tumblr CEO Matt basically harassing a trans woman on AND off Tumblr, I think it's important to remember that no company is your friend. I'm keeping my account on there for now, but I don't have high hopes for this at all.
Twitter went down the shitter, Facebook has been sucking for a while now, Reddit is getting worse and worse with their API changes and their agreements with big AI. Tumblr is taking a turn for the worse now that they are doubling down on their awful moderation. Like, I knew that Tumblr sucks, it always has, but like come on. I think I'm hoping to aim for not having any social media accounts for privacy and just them simply getting less and less enjoyable to use. They don't represent the user anymore, the user represents the corporate hellscape everything is becoming. Everything is just done in pursuit of money and profit. They don't care about their users anymore.
The main web really consists of a few "big companies" and that honestly fucking sucks. I know that the fediverse is a thing and hopefully in the future everything will kind of follow that model, but I'm tired of making accounts and then having my data out there. I don't have a need to post things online, I have my instagram for sharing things like kind of personally? I mean it's a private account and I share my pictures on it. That's it really. I wish I didn't need to have an instagram and I can just make something on my website that shows a compilation of images I want to share. That's a future me problem. Either way, I'm keeping a close eye on the federated web and its iterations, I just don't think I'm ready for it yet. When I do get it I want to delete my Tumblr and Instagram account, which will require most of my friends to be on there too.
It's hard to follow this train of thought since I'm also talking to my roommate and watching a DougDoug video, and I'm very overstimulated. Either way, corporate media sucks, independent websites are the future, maybe the fediverse/mastadon might be good, but I'm too tired of signing up for social media accounts, even if it's open source, decentralized, and connected to everything else. Maybe it is something I pursue in the future.
